Dinesh's wallet, mobile phones stolen at coconut dashing ritual

Several wallets were picked and mobile phones stolen including the wallet of MP Dinesh Gunawardane when hundreds of politicians and supporters belonging to the joint opposition queued up to dash coconuts at Seenigama Devalaya against the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on Saturday.

The ritual was meant to bring intervention by deities against FCID activities.

The organisers later used loud speakers to appeal that the stolen wallets be returned.

Gunewardane's wallet was later found in the premises by a person who attended the ritual reportedly sans the money. Meanwhile, an owner of a boutique near the devalaya said he found three wallets while clearing the shop at the end of the day, which had been thrown.

However, police has not received any complaints regarding the stolen wallets and mobile phones.

Meanwhile, reports said Gunawardane had denied reports that his wallet had been picked.
