Sri Lanka wins two Golds, five Merit awards at APICTA

Sri Lanka clinched two coveted golds and five merit awards at the recently concluded Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA)-2015 in Colombo.

These feats were announced by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) and BCS the Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka (BCSSL) .

Representing the business sector, Sri Lanka clinched two gold awards and two merit accolades. In addition, two merit awards were won by the segment representing the university students' and another merit award emerged from the sector representing school children.

At the APICTA-2015 International Contest and Awards ceremony, 197 contestants from 16 countries formed into 17 groups to present their innovations.

It was an honour for Sri Lanka to have won seven accolades at this prestigious event after offering healthy competition among other aspirants in the different sectors. The winners were chosen by a highly competent, experienced panel of judges drawn from amongst member countries in line with international benchmark standards. Their process of evaluation to decide on the winners spread over a three-day period. The presentation of awards to the winners was held under the auspices of chief guest, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, Harin Fernando at a glittering ceremony held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo.

The winner of the National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) organized by BCS the Chartered Institute for IT, Sri Lanka Section, can represent the country at APICTA hosted by different countries in the Asia Pacific region annually. Similarly, contestants who emerge victorious at the Young Computer Scientist Competition (YCS), organized by FITIS, can also represent Sri Lanka at APICTA on an annual basis. On previous occasions also, contestants who represented Sri Lanka have competed with 16 countries in the Asia Pacific region and bagged Gold and Merit awards. A special highlight was the hosting of APICTA - 2015 in Colombo and Sri Lankan contestants winning two gold accolades, in addition to five Merit awards at this year's competition.

Representing the Government and Public sector category, an innovative product called 'InfoID' developed by Informatics International was awarded an enviable gold accolade. The other gold award was bagged by ZONE24x7 for its product AZIRO - the Autonomous Inventory Robot developed under the Research & Development category.

The guest-of-honour was Dr. Dileepa De Silva, Chairman, Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA).
