Posters in Vavuniya urge public to light lamp on Nov. 27

An organised group pasted posters in the Vavuniya town and suburbs urging the people to light a lamp in each house and school to mark Mahaviru Day on November 27 to commemorate LTTE terrorist leader Vellupillai Prabahakaran. These posters read: 'Our target is Tamil Eelam- Let's celebrate Mahaviru Day."

Meanwhile, Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said police in Vavuniya had not seen such posters in the town. "I have made inquiries from senior police officials in Vauniya but they confirmed that such posters have not been pasted in the town," he said. Gunasekera said Vavuniya Police have been informed to be alert about persons pasting such posters in the town and suburbs.

The Police spokesman added persons pasting posters would be arrested and produced in court.

Pasting such posters is illegal and police will take measures to remove such posters, he said.
