Vavuniya Police Special Crime Investigation Division arrested a police constable who cheated a woman police constable by promising to marry her and defrauding one million rupees from her. This constable, who was working at Padaviya Police Station, was arrested on Wednesday (7) after he was called to the Special Criminal Investigation Department and interrogated.
Police say that this police officer is a married man who maintained a romantic relationship with the WPC.
The police say that this fraud took place while these two police officers were working together at the Nedunkerni police station. The victim WPC lodged the complaint in 2019.
