Tea production up marginally in April

Sri Lanka tea production for the month of April 2023 totalled 24.72 M/Kgs, showing an increase of 1.82 M/Kgs vis-à-vis 22.90 M/Kgs of April 2022. All elevations have shown a steady growth in volume in comparison with the corresponding period of 2022.

When compared to 30.03 M/Kgs of April 2021, the same period of 2023 shows a decrease of 5.30 M/Kgs according to Forbes & Walker Research. Meanwhile January to April 2023 cumulative production totalled 84.09 M/Kgs, recording a decrease of 2.14 M/Kgs vis-à-vis 86.23 M/Kgs of January-April 2022. When compared to 2022, all elevations barring the Low Grown and Green Tea segments have shown negative variances in the year 2023.

When compared to 104.54 M/Kgs of January-April 2021, cumulative production of 2023 shows a decrease of 20.46 M/Kgs. On a cumulative basis, whilst all elevations show a decrease over the corresponding period of 2021, green tea production has seen a marginal increase versus the corresponding period in the previous year.
