Two poaching trawlers seized off Northern waters

The Sri Lanka Navy during a special operation seized two Indian trawlers from Sri Lankan waters on Thursday (23). Apart from the trawlers, 12 Indian nationals were also arrested while poaching in the waters off Analaitivu and Kovilan, Jaffna.

The Northern Naval Command deployed Fast Attack Craft of the 04th Fast Attack Flotilla to chase away a cluster of Indian poaching trawlers, having spotted them engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters off Analaitivu and Kovilan. The seized trawlers together with 12 Indian fishermen were brought to the Kankesanthurai harbour and they will be handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for further action.
