The Wellawaya Police said the body of a youth who went to bathe in Ellawela falls in Wellawaya was found yesterday and three others have gone missing and are presumed to have drowned.
The incident had happened when a group of 10 people, who came to visit the falls went to bathe there. They are residents of Kattankudy and Akkaraipattu. Police said bathing in the falls is dangerous and 13 people have died in this place on previous occasions. For this reason, the place was closed to tourists for sometime and the accident happened shortly after it was re-opened, the police said. The deceased are Mohammed Azwer, Mohamme Zunur, Mohammed Hayaf and Mohammed Naufus, residents of Samanthurai, Saindamarudu and Kalmunai. The body of Mohammed Azwer has been found and a search operation is on to find the other three youth.
