High transparency helps procurement process in health sector - Keheliya

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says that the procurement process in the health sector in Sri Lanka has been made more efficient with high transparency.

The Minister said that the programme for that is currently being successfully implemented in the relevant institutions and we can expect high efficiency in the health sector in the future.

Minister Rambukwella was during a meeting with US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung.

The US Ambassador met with Minister Rambukwella at the ministry yesterday morning (17) and discussed the current situation in the health sector.

The Minister said that the procurement process was taking too much time and the time taken for it has been brought to a minimum level. This process which referred to the 18 approvals has been reduced with the opinions of the relevant professionals.

The Minister said: “We calculated our demand and corresponding supply for the next five years during the ordering process here. Steps are being taken to expedite this order so that the quality of the medicines is not affected and there are no safety problems in storage.

“Minister Rambukwella told American Chung that he expects the necessary support to obtain essential medicines for cancer, heart and kidney patients.
