Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella told Parliament yesterday that the Government has managed to procure 83 types of drugs out of 151 required by hospitals in this country so far. He said that many more medicines will be received in the next two to three weeks and thus many existing problems in health will be able to solve by the end of this quarter.The Minister said this while replying to a statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who said that there is a shortage of medicines in the country. The Minister also said that the ‘Husma’ programme conducted by the Opposition Leader received high support for this endeavour. So he urges the support of every party to contribute to this endeavor despite the election.
He also reiterated that no essential surgery has been postponed and only surgeries that can be postponed have been postponed for a short period of time in consultation with the Health authorities.
