President did not say anything about a lawyer in politics - MP

BASL has created unnecessary hue and cry:

United National Party (UNP) Chairman, MP Vajira Abeywardena said President Ranil Wickremesinghe did not mention in his speech

in Parliament on February 23 about a lawyer engaged in politics.

Abeywardena said that in his speech, the President only recalled what some ruling party MPs shared with him regarding the selection of a private lawyer from outside to represent the Election Commission.

In spite of this, Abeywardena questioned why the Sri Lanka Bar Association has created an unnecessary hue and cry regarding the President’s speech.

Abeywardena mentioned this while speaking to the media regarding a press release issued by the Sri Lanka Bar Association.

He said that the complete unedited speech made by the President in Parliament is in the Hansard report, and added that if the Sri Lanka Bar Association has any problem with the President’s speech, they can peruse the Hansard report and can clear any doubts.

Abeywardena further said that the statement made by the President regarding what the members of the ruling party said to the President is clearly stated in the Hansard report.
