Govt officials told to travel economy class, cut down expenses

The Presidential Secretariat is slated to issue a circular in the coming week,   banning business class flights during official’s overseas visits for senior government officials including the Secretaries of the President and Prime Minister.

Accordingly, officials who have enjoyed the facility so far have to travel in economy class when going on official overseas visits in future.

A senior official mentioned that when the people are suffering due to the prevailing economic situation, the commitment of government officials is necessary and this circular is issued in accordance with the government’s policy of reducing costs.

The circular will also impose restrictions on the hotels where the officials stay during their foreign trips.
