Son, mother die in collision on the way to hospital

A mother and a son died in an accident yesterday (1) afternoon when the motorcycle they were travelling on the Kurunegala - Dambulla main road collided with an oncoming bus while trying to overtake a car near Gokarella Polgolla Pirivena.

The police media unit stated that the two who were seriously injured died while being taken to the Gokarella hospital.

The deceased are Kamalawathi (62) a resident of Diddeniya and her son Ratnayake (39). The son was riding the motorcycle with his mother in the back. As his wife is undergoing treatment at the Kurunegala hospital, it appears that he rode the motorcycle at high speed to reach the hospital before the visiting hours were over, police said.
