The Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe is expected to make few amendments to appoint selectors for the National sports bodies. After the discussion between National Sports Council and National Selection Committee yesterday at the Sports Ministry Board Room the Minister took few decisions to assure transparency in Selection Committee appointments, said Sports Ministry Secretary K Mahesan.

The Minister and the National Sports Council headed by Arjuna Ranatunga and National Selection Committee headed by General Shavendra Silva had successful discussion yesterday. The main focus has been the National cricket Selection Committee appointments.

The Secretary K.Mahesan said that they are expected to advertise for cricket selectors and from the applicants the special panel appointed by the Sports Ministry will appoint the cricket Selection Committee.

Earlier National sports bodies send the names for Selection Committees and National Selection Committee approval and the Sports Minister’s approval finalized the selectors.

Sri Lanka cricket already send 10 names (former cricketers) for the new Selection Committee while the three present selectors names (chairman Promodya Wickramasinghe, Hemantha Wickramaratne and Romesh Kaluwitharana) were included with seven others names.

However Daily News learnt that National Selection Committee was not satisfied with some names of the said committee members and wanted to get new names for this cricket Selection Committee.

Meanwhile the senior member of the Sri Lanka cricket (SLC) said normally SLC named selectors list and get Exco approval and then send to the Sports Ministry for the approval and that’s the normal procedure.

Meanwhile several former National cricketers are not happy about the refuse of the names of the Selection Committee. They said we have an idea to develop cricket but if they do not wish to get our support we are not going to apply for this posts.

However the Sri Lanka A cricket series already commenced and selectors are very busy with future cricket tours of National side, A team, Under 19 and Emerging teams.
