Colombo Dockyard further anchors to European market

The Colombo Dockyard PLC, a Board of Investment (BOI) registered establishment, launches the second vessel of a series of six numbers 5000DWT Eco Bulk Carriers being built for Misje Eco Bulk AS, Norway (Misje).

Misje Eco Bulk AS, Norway (Misje) is the very first European client of CDPLC and this project too illustrates CDPLC’s reputation in the European market with the brand “Built in Sri Lanka blending Sri Lankan technology with Japanese quality” receiving high recognition and acceptance in the Europe market.

The vessel launched is 89.95m in length, 15.40 m in breadth, and 9.20 m in depth and is designed to hold a cargo capacity of 5000 DWT. The type of cargo the vessel could carry includes bulk cargo, grain, timber, unit loads and containers. Each vessel is powered by 4 stroke diesel engines with an Electric Hybrid system supplying additional power through a battery storage system. This vessel is built to DNV classification society standards.

The series of vessels are developed with the basic design from Wartsila Norway and detailed design is being carried out inhouse by the CDPLC design team.

CDPLC delivered the first vessel of the series in September 2022.

BOI Director General Renuka M Weerakone graced the ceremonial launching, which was held at Dock No 2 of CDPLC premises on January 23, 2023, with the participation of owners, dignitaries from the Embassy of Norway in Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, officials from government institutions including SLN, SLPA, EDB, Customs, Class surveyors, CDPLC top management and employees. Representing DNV was Saman A. Kumarasinghe Country Manager.
