Leg spinner Lasith Embuldeniya and paceman Kavishka Anjula both claimed five-wicket hauls in the National Super League tournament fixtures played at SSC grounds and R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Lasith Embuldeniya who plays for the Kandy team took 5 for 60 in his 30-over spell and once again reminded selectors of his skills after an unsuccessful Test series against Bangladesh, also, his bowling figures helped his side to restrict the Colombo team to 214 in their first innings.
Leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya who came to the bat at number ten scored a fighting knock of 51 while all-rounder Nisala Tharaka scored 38 and the pair took Colombo’s score past the 200-run mark in their innings.
Former St. Sylvester’s paceman Nimsara Atharagalla also played a good supporting role as he finished with figures of 4 for 62.
At close, Kandy made a bold reply with experienced Oshada Fernando (32) and Sadun Weerakkody (30) remaining unbeaten to close the day at 96/2.
Meanwhile, former Ananda paceman Kavishka Anjula playing for the Galle team had superb figures of 5 for 23 as Dambulla were bowled out for 155 in their match which began at the R.Premadasa. The Galle side led by Ramesh Mendis scored 90 for 3 wickets at close while former National skipper Angelo Mathews (22) and Pasindu Sooriyabandara (16) were at the wicket.
