Graduates to fill teacher vacancies after EC approval - Minister

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday (17) that immediately after receiving the approval of the Elections Commission, the announcement will be made to recruit 26,000   graduates who are currently employed in the government service.

The Minister said this while replying to an oral question by MP Imtiaz Bakeer Markar regarding the filling of teacher vacancies. The Education Minister said that all vacancies in the teaching service will be filled by absorbing the graduate officers in the government service.

At present, they are collecting information about the subject-wise teacher vacancies from the respective regional offices, and these vacancies will be filled from the graduates selected in the competitive examination to be held in the future.

The Education Minister said that the approval of the Cabinet and the approval of the Public Service Commission have been obtained for this.

He said that what is left for now is to get the approval of the Election Commission and it will be approved today or tomorrow.

Accordingly, he said that he hopes to complete all the teacher vacancies by March 27, when the third term ends.
