Teenage pregnancy and underage marriages are a common problem in the Anuradhapura District even through the Government and Non government agencies were controlling the issue maximum. However, there is no a viable solution for the issue so far, Anuradhapura District Child Protection Officer Mahendra Dassanayake said.
He told the Daily News that under the guidance of Anuradhapura Government Agent Janaka Jayasundara the second phase of Abihipra Street Drama Programme will commence shortly to educate the people in this regard.
“Abhipra covered all the 22 Divisional Secretariats last year. A street drama was performed nearly 100 times for 15,040 children, 612 teachers and 858 government officers. We are planning to commence the phase II of the programme with a minimum cost,’’ Mahendra Dassanayake said.
