400 crooked job agencies BANNED

Temporary ban imposed on job agencies that received their commissions through unauthorised means such as the “Undiyal” money transfer system
Caution not to fall prey to fraudsters

Four hundred job agencies have been banned for failing to provide the required information on migrants, whom they had sent for overseas jobs on tourist visas, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.

Speaking in the Budget debate in Parliament on Saturday, when the Expenditure Heads of his Ministry were taken up, the Minister said that temporary bans have also been imposed on job agencies that received their commissions through unauthorised means such as the “Undiyal” money transfer system, as opposed to using proper channels to bring in dollars to Sri Lanka.

“We are strictly regulating the job agencies. The country has got some breathing space thanks to the foreign remittances of the migrant workers. We are grateful to them, but at the same time, we caution them not to fall prey to fraudsters. Also, some try to dissuade them from sending money to Sri Lanka. Do not fall prey to such political propaganda,” he said.
