Singapore to facilitate 4,000 nurses to work there

Ten high-ranking officials of the Singaporean Health Ministry arrived in Sri Lanka on  Tuesday night to discuss facilitating 4,000 Sri Lankan nurses to work in the health sector in Singapore next year.

The initiative is a pilot project of the Singaporean Health Ministry. The visiting health officials will make a study tour at the Sri Lanka Nursing College, Sri Jayawardhanapura General Hospital, a private hospital in Colombo and State Universities to look into the health-related courses offered by them.

The opportunity for the Sri Lankan nurses to enter into the Singapore health sector has been opened after 20 years. The first batch will include 150 nurses serving in Government hospitals.They will be selected by the authorities in Singapore through a competitive examination and an interview. The programme is conducted under the supervision of the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore.
