President calls for All-Party meeting to discuss national issue

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday called for an All-Party meeting to discuss and solve the national issue. Speaking in Parliament yesterday, President Wickremesinghe said the meeting can be held during the second week of December. The President noted that once the 2023 Budget process is complete on December 8, all parties can convene for the decisive meeting.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the matter has been discussed on various occasions and various opinions have been expressed and therefore it is imperative that all parties convene and come to a consensus.

The President said he is determined to solve the issue and celebrate the 75th Independence Day celebrations as children of one family.During the Parliamentary sitting, the President inquired the consent of the opposition members in this regard.

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella, Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance Mano Ganesan and Spokesperson of the Tamil National Alliance M.A. Sumanthiran all consented to the proposal and expressed their willingness to hold discussions and arrive at a common solution.

Parliamentarian Gevindu Cumaranatunga said the President and Parliament must consider the ground reality before taking decisions on the national issue.

President Wickremesinghe stressed that he is open to discuss the matter further and solve the problem before the next Independence Day.
