Education Programme to reduce exam burden

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that the new education transformation programme will begin soon to reduce exam burden. According to Minister Dr. Premajayantha, the education transformation beyond the new education reforms will reduce the burden of exams by properly managing the resources. The new process will be started from next January and the Greater Colombo Economic Area has been selected as the target region. The Minister was participating in a ceremony on November16 at Ananda Vidyalaya, Colombo to donate dry rations worth Rs. 1 million for Kotahena Kumara Vidyalaya.

The Minister said that the same educational transformation is already being carried out in the Colombo region and the programmes of providing lunch, counselling, preventing misbehaviour in schools and vocational training guidance are being implemented.

Appreciating the support shown by Ananda Vidyalaya in conjunction with the Education Ministry nutrition programme, the Minister said that there has been an inseparable religious, spiritual and physical relationship between the two schools since their inception. The Minister also said that Ananda Vidyalaya and Kotahena Kumara Vidyalaya are related to the concept of a leading school fostering the relevant cluster schools under the education reforms, thereby using the country's resources sparingly by exchanging human and physical resources such as teachers, dry food, and school equipment to under-resourced schools. The Minister added that the economic challenges can be overcome in this to some extent.

The programme was chaired by the Education Minister and Principal of the school Ven. Vaskaduwe Susima Thera, Colombo Provincial Director of Education G.N. Silva and others were present.
