Teacher, two women arrested for fraud in Uva

Over Rs.5 mn collected promising state sector jobs

The Bandarawela Police Special Crime Investigation Division said that two women and a school teacher, have been arrested following complaints that they fraudulently obtained more than five million rupees after promising permanent employment to youth in the state sector.

The police say that a teacher from Welimada and two women residing in Badulla and Hali-ela areas have been arrested in connection with this fraud. Uva Provincial Education Secretary has meanwhile suspended the services of the teacher allegedly involved in the incident.

The police say that the young men and women who received appointment letters after paying the money from the women were prevented from reporting to their workplace by the suspects.

They were prevented from going to the workplace by the three suspects by making phone calls to them saying that the acceptance of the work was delayed due to the COVID situation in the country. The suspects are to be produced in court.
