Man trying to sell Valampuri for Rs.5 mn arrested

A man pretending to be a third year student of the Peradeniya University’s Allied Health Sciences Faculty, who tried to sell a Valampuri for Rs. five million was arrested on Monday (3) by the Kandy Division’s anti-corruption division based on information received by the Army Intelligence Division.

Police said that he was arrested while trying to make the transaction with a client at the Allied Health Sciences Faculty premises at around 7 pm.

The arrest was made after a police officer was deployed as a decoy who negotiated a deal with the suspect on the pretext of buying the Valampuri for Rs.five million based on information received by the Army Intelligence.

It has been revealed through police investigations that this 27-year-old student, a resident of Akkaraipattu area, has taken this Valampuri from a house in the Panadura area.

He has stated that when he went to a friend’s house in Panadura to conduct a class, he had seen this Valampuri in that house and because a friend had said that it could be sold for Rs.five million, he had taken it from the house.
