Officers of the Gampaha Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, who were investigating a robbery in Watumulla, Gampaha, about a year and a half ago where gold jewellery and cash worth about Rs.2.5 million was stolen, arrested four people including a former police officer yesterday in connection with the incident.

Police information revealed that among the four suspects is the brother of the woman who owned the house that was robbed.

A senior police officer said that the robbery was planned by the brother and the constable involved in the heist had vacated his post some time ago.

The house owner’s husband is working in Dubai and only the daughter who is a university student and the house owner were at home.

A woman who lives nearby was also staying in the house when the robbery took place.
