Siyambalapitiya requests detailed report on MP Aluthgamage’s statement on tax revenue

Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya asked the relevant authorities to provide a detailed report within two weeks regarding MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s recent accusation that the country’s tax revenue is not collected properly.

The State Minister has instructed the heads of the Inland Revenue Department, Excise Department and Customs Department to provide a detailed report within the next two weeks regarding the matters presented by MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage in Parliament recently.

State Minister Siyambalapitiya further mentioned that the report will be submitted to Parliament within a month.Making a statement in Parliament, Aluthgamage said that the Excise Duty and Customs duty will not be collected formally and therefore the country is losing a significant amount of money annually.

Accordingly, the State Minister held a special discussion yesterday with Inland Revenue Department, Excise Department and Customs Department officials at the Ministry Auditorium.Inland Revenue Commissioner General D.R.S. Hapuarachchi, Customs Director General P.B.S.C. Nonis and Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri participated in the discussion.
