Commitment of players and officials paved the way for success, says netball chief

Winning Asian Netball crown is due to the commitment of the players, supporting staff and my Federation members as well as Sport Ministry and sponsors, said Victoria Lakshmi after the Asian Netball final held in Singapore yesterday

Actually we had a very hard journey when I took top post of the Netball Federation I had to face so many difficulties. Especially the former Netball administration appointed National head coach as well as Selection committee and section of the Netball fraternity forced me to change coach and some officials appointed by the previous administration.

Actually as a senior administrator I had to balance everything and coordinate with the Sport Ministry as well as sponsors while finally I had to meet National Sport Council (NSC) headed by Arjuna Ranatunga. There was a selection issues until the last minute while I had to deal with the Netball selection committee as well as National sports selection committee and the Sports Ministry.I had to meet Sports Ministry officials and the Sports Minister and gave all facilities for the National team which was my priority.

My team made good commitment and their dedication was very high while Sport Ministry always backed me to get everything. The secretary of the Sports Ministry and Sports Director General and sponsors gave good support.

Sri Lanka already have qualified to the World Netball championship in South Africa and our next target is to go for that said Netball chief who also the Vice President of the Asian Netball Federation.

Our game plan was to take match by match while my team members put in a good effort to get the success said Sri Lanka skipper Gayanjali Amarawansa.

We beat all top Asian Netball teams like Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong before this final and that gave big boost to us. The seniors and juniors had good commitment while head coach Hyacinth Wijesinghe and the team doctor Dr Shiromi Pilalitiya always backed us, said Gayanjali Amarawansa.
