Fr. Jeewantha Peiris granted bail

Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris who surrendered to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday was released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.

When the matter was taken up before Court, the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Division requested the Magistrate to place Fr.Jeewantha Peiris under remand custody.

The Magistrate rejected the request made by the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Division to remand Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, and he was released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on him. Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris has also been instructed to appear before the Slave Island Police today (13) to record a statement. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for August 26.
