Delivering a sermon at the festive mass held to mark the annual feast of St. James Church, Mutwal, Cardinal Ranjith said the truth behind the Easter Sunday attacks have been swept under the carpet as powerful people in the country were behind them.
The Archbishop said that there is no law and no room for law in the country at present, and that there is lawlessness in the country. He added that the country should be ashamed before the rest world in this regard.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said that the law in the country is the law of the powerful, adding that no matter how many requests were made to conduct investigations regarding the Easter Sunday attack and those found guilty be prosecuted, the law of the country did nothing.
He also said that with regard to the hand grenade that was found at the All Saints Church in Borella, it was the those in power who were part of the previous government and those from the defence establishment had kept the hand grenade in that church. However, he said that innocent parties were arrested and forced to confess to it.
The archbishop said that the country has fallen into an abyss and is being destroyed because of people who are greedy for power and wealth. He noted that we have to think that we are suffering today because of our own stupidity.
He added that although they call this country a righteous land (Dharmadveepaya) look at what is happening today, claiming that 269 people lost their lives in the Easter Attack in 2019 and yet no justice has been served due to the powerful ness of those in power.
