A discussion was held between Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and USAID Sri Lanka and Maldives Director Gabrial Grau at the Justice Ministry yesterday.
The discussion was focused on the importance of improving the quality of legal education, the automation project of the judicial system and the training of judges and lawyers for a quality judicial system.
The Minister also emphasised that the presence of a quality judicial system is essential to increase the public’s confidence in the judicial system. The Minister also said that the highest quality judge training institute in South Asia will be set up in Sri Lanka for the training of judges. The Minister also said that he has submitted several new legal reform Bills to the Cabinet to replace the outdated laws of the judiciary in the last few days. Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that steps have already been taken to appoint a committee and sell off such assets if they are not cleared within three months.
The committee is due to submit a report on the relevant laws within a month.
