House to debate recent clashes for three days

The Adjournment Debate pertaining to damages caused to public and private property due to the recent clashes will be held for three days.

Although the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided on Tuesday to take the Adjournment Motion on 17 and 18 May, it decided to continue on 19 as well.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that the questions for oral answers which were to be taken up yesterday were postponed to another day due to the issue of lack of time for the debate.

Hence the debate on the COPE Report which was scheduled to be held on May 19 is also postponed. The Committee on Parliamentary Business also decided on Tuesday that the vote of Condolence on SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala who was murdered on May 9 by the protesters will be taken on May 20.
