Former Minister’s Gazette suspending Rugby stayed

The Court of Appeal yesterday (13) issued an Interim Order suspending the enactments of the Gazette issued by former Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa suspending Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) temporarily. The decision was issued by the Court of Appeal Bench comprising Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola following the consideration of the writ application with regard to the gazette notification that suspended the SLR registration of the Sports Association for Sri Lanka Rugby by former Minister Namal Rajapaksa on April 1.

Sri Lanka Rugby President Rizly Ilyas and Sri Lanka Rugby filed the writ application citing seven including former Minister Rajapaksa as the respondents.

The Order will be in effect until June 30, 2022.
