MPs to get beefed up security

Steps have been taken to beef-up the security of all MPs.

The IGP has instructed the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) to deploy six police officers including a Sub Inspector for the security of each Parliamentarian.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (Operations) of the Ministerial Security Division has instructed the OIC of the Ministerial Security Division to deploy six officers, including a Sub Inspector, for the security of each MP. Members of Parliament have also been given the opportunity to attach their preferred officers from the local police stations to the Ministerial Security Division and use them for their own security.

In the event any parliamentarian refuses the assigned six police personnel for their protection, the IGP has given instructions to obtain the refusal in writing. This step is expected to be enforced from today. Each MP was only assigned two police officers.
