A number of countries hailed the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister and they hoped that the new government will bring political and economic stability to the country under the leadership of Wickremesinghe
Australian High Commissioner in Colombo David Holly said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s appointment is an opportunity for Sri Lanka to address the current crisis.
“Encourage the establishment of a new government to work towards an enduring solution for all Sri Lankans,” Holly tweeted.European Union Ambassador in Colombo Holger Seubert said that the EU and member States see the early signs of a political process.
“Hope coming weeks will offer resolution of the political instability that deepened the economic crisis,” Seubert tweeted. The envoy encouraged all parties to work to the benefit of all Sri Lankans and to remain peaceful. British High Commissioner in Colombo Sarah Hultonsaid that the coming weeks are crucial for bringing political and economic stability to Sri Lanka.

US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Julie J. Chung said that appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister and the quick formation of an inclusive government, are first steps to addressing the crisis and promoting stability.
The Ambassador encouraged meaningful progress at the International Monetary Fund and long-term solutions that meet the needs of all Sri Lankans.
Indian High Commission in a tweet said that it hopes for political stability and looks forward to working with the Government of Sri Lanka formed in accordance with democratic processes pursuant to the swearing in of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
