CPC says fuel usage has increased by 35%

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said that the usage of fuel in Sri Lanka has increased by 30 to 35% compared to last year.

CPC Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said only 139,000 MT of fuel was utilized by January 2021.

However, in January 2022, the usage has increased to 198,000 MT of fuel, he said. Accordingly, he said that US$ 1.2 billion was spent in January, February and March to purchase fuel. Stating that it is an unusual surge in usage, Wijesinghe said the reason for such an increase must be investigated. He pointed out that the importation of vehicles had been banned over the last two years.
