Harin says nothing dangerous brought into Chamber

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando said in Parliament yesterday (25) that he was ready to face any inquiry into the torch incident.

He said that he had brought his bag which contained the small torch in it and he had even passed it through the scanner as he had nothing to hide.

Fernando was responding to an allegation made by a group of ruling party Members in Parliament yesterday that a suspicious parcel  had been brought to the Parliament complex obstructing the duties of police officers. However, he made this statement without the approval of the Chair.

“I put my bag through the scanner and I can guarantee that I did not bring anything dangerous to Parliament.Neither did I obstruct the duties of the police officers. I am prepared to face any inquiry, but I urge the Speaker not to make this a bigger issue than it really is. I never brought anything dangerous item to Parliament.”

Harin Fernando also said that he would be engaging in a certain matter pertaining to the release of former MP Ranjan Ramanayake next Monday and urged the government not to obstruct him in his efforts for his colleague and friend Ramanayake.
