UNP Leader laments reduced time allotted for Parties

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament yesterday that the time allotted for the Adjournment Debate on the President’s Policy Statement has been reduced for all Opposition Parties except the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

He noted that it had been agreed to set aside two and a half hours for Opposition Parties except the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, but later the time was reduced. Wickremesinghe said he had initially suggested the need for an adjournment debate on the President’s policy speech, and it was agreed to give him half an hour, but later it was cut off.

The UNP Leader said the Opposition had agreed to give him the first speech but had been given it to another MP, adding that it was not a problem and that he could speak later.Wickremesinghe said he had heard that the TNA MP had been given only 15 minutes to speak in the Adjournment Debate and that the promised 20 minutes had not been given to the Jathika Jana Balawegaya MP Anura Dissanayake.

He said that they plan to take up the matter with the Speaker.
