Principal out on bail

The principal of Thakshila Vidyalaya in Gampaha who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABIC) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000 has been enlarged on bail.

The case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Ragala yesterday. She was released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 and two sureties of Rs.1,000,000 each. The suspect was identified as S.R.A.K. Samaratunga, a resident of Bomulla.

The suspect was arrested by CIABOC sleuths on December 23 last year, when she was about to receive the bribe from the plaintiff at the school office, in order to admit the plaintiff’s child to Year 7 of the school’s English stream, for 2022.
