‘Eravur MPCS provides a valuable public service’

The Eravur Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society (MPCS) has opened an outlet at the Punnaikkuda Road, Eravur yesterday. Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Co-operative, Irrigation, Livestock and Fisheries of the Eastern Province Kalamathy Pathmaraja opened the sales centre.

The Secretary said that the officials of this society have set an example to the Batticaloa District by opening the outlet and 19 more will be opened in the near future. “Even during the height of the COVID pandemic, this society served the public exemplarily,” she added.

MPCS President A.L.M. Abdul Lateef said that the Co-operative Society paid its employees annual bonuses and special allowances even during the height of the COVID pandemic. The Eravur MPCS is running a co-operative hospital, garment factory, filling station, rice mill, rural bank, wholesale centre and a lubrication centre. Eastern Province Co-operative Development Commissioner A.L.M. Azmi, Assistant Commissioner K.V.Thangavel and Manmunai North Divisional Secretary V.Vasudevan were present.
