Sri Lanka under 19's led by Dunith Wellalage recorded an easy 274-run win over Kuwait under 19's in their opening Asia Cup cricket fixture played at Sharjah Stadium yesterday.

This was a one-sided affair while Sri Lanka started the Asia Cup on a high note as they dominated the game from the beginning to seal their victory. They chose to bat first with scoring a massive total of 323 for five wickets in their 50 overs while the Kuwait team was bundled out for 49 runs in just 17.3 overs.

Sri Lankan openers Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Shevon Daniel scored 54 runs each and made a 91 runs stand in 17.2 overs while Pawan Pathiraja the left-hander top-scored 86 in 65 balls hitting 11 fours while Ranuda Somaratne made an unbeaten 60 in 57 balls striking 4 fours and one six. The pair added a 114-run fifth-wicket stand. Kuwait openers Meet Bhavsar (25) and Jude Saldanha (12), chasing the target, added a 31-run stand in 5.3 overs but others failed to reach double figures as the batsmen struggled during their innings only playing up to 17.3 overs. Skipper Dunith Wellalage was the most successful bowler taking 4 wickets giving only 2 runs away in just 1.3 overs while off-spinner Sadisha Rajapaksa 3 for 4 and paceman Matheesha Pathirana 2 for 7 gave fine support.

Sri Lanka will meet Nepal in their next Asia Cup game which is scheduled to be held on the 26th at the same venue Sharjah Stadium followed by the Bangladesh match on the 28th.

Meanwhile, other Asia Cup matches were held in Dubai yesterday India beat host UAE by 154 runs while Pakistan recorded 4 wickets win over Afaganistan.
