A three-Judge panel in Colombo yesterday decided to hear the case filed by the Attorney General against ten suspects, including former minister Ravi Karunanayake, for allegedly causing a loss of Rs.15 billion to the Government through the third Bond auction held during the period of Good Governance.

Accordingly, the case will be heard from December 6 to 10 and from December 24 to 28 from 10.30 am.
Defendants Ravi Karunanayake and others appeared before High Court Judges Amal Ranaraja, Namal Balalle and Aditya Patabendige.
Summons were also issued to five prosecution witnesses to appear in Court on December 6. Indika Saman Kumara, the 10th accused in the case, was asked by the bench to obtain several documents from the Central Bank.
The case was filed by the Attorney General on charges including criminal misappropriation of public funds by causing loss to the government at the March 31, 2015 bond auction. Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and Perpetual Treasuries Director G. Punchihewa, who have fled the country, will be tried in absentia.
Senior State Counsel Lakmini Girihagama and other Government lawyers appeared for the plaintiff. After considering the arguments of both parties, the Bench adjourned the case till December 6, summoning the witnesses and directing them to appear on that day.
