Travel restrictions extended till Oct 31

As per the instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the existing inter-provincial travel restrictions currently in place were extended till 4.00 a.m. on October 31, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.

The inter-provincial travel restrictions remained in effect despite the relaxation of the quarantine curfew which was lifted earlier.

Accordingly, it was decided to strictly enforce the inter-provincial travel restrictions which were to end after 4.00 am today. The Director General of Health Services made further amendments to the existing COVID-19 health guidelines issued to control the spread of the virus within the country recently.

As per the guidelines cinemas will be permitted to open with 25 percent of the total capacity after today. Meanwhile, weddings will be permitted with a maximum of 50 guests indoors and 75 outdoors. Meanwhile, restaurants (dining in) will be permitted to accommodate customers not exceeding a 30 percent capacity and with an upper limit of 50 customers. However, liquor will not be permitted outdoors. A maximum of 60 customers will be permitted into supermarkets and shops can accommodate customers not exceeding 20 percent of its capacity. Banks and financial institutions can accommodate a maximum of five customers (inside) at any given time. Non-COVID funerals will be allowed to be held with the participation of 20 people at any given time.
