Suspects in Elle captain's alleged murder remanded

Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema yesterday (15) ordered to remand 15 suspects, including the Commanding Officer of the Army Modara Camp, Gemunu Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel in connection with the murder of the captain of the Thotalaga Elle sports team, until October 29.

The Magistrate issued the order following a request made by the Police that the evidence could be affected if the suspects were granted bail as investigations into the incident were not yet complete.

Commanding Officer of the Army Modara Camp, Gemunu Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel, the Grama Niladhari wife of the deceased Elle Player, a Corporal and 15 other Army personnel were remanded by the court. Akila Sampath Ratnasiri, a 36-year-old father of three, a resident of Batuwatta, Ragama, was the leader of the Thotalanga Elle group was killed in this manner.

The deceased Elle player’s wife had lodged a complaint with the Police stating that her husband had been missing since August 17.

Investigations revealed that the body of the missing man had been found on Crow Island, Mattakkuliya on August 20 with his hands and face tied.
