Sri Lanka’s new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Ministry Pakeer Mohideen Amza who has been appointed Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia is slated to take up the appointment in Saudi capital of Riyadh shortly.

Saudi Ambassador in Colombo Abdulnaser Al-Harthy said that Amza’s appointment as ambassador has been confirmed by the Saudi Foreign Ministry following approval from the Royal Court.

Sources from the Foreign Ministry in Colombo told the Daily News that the Ministry has got the confirmation from the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

Amza counts decades of experience in the Foreign Service and is considered as one of the finest diplomats by way of his exemplary performances as a career diplomat.

Besides serving in the Foreign Ministry, Amza had served as Ambassador to Turkey with concurrent accreditation to Georgia and Ukraine, ambassador to Belgium with concurrent accreditation to Luxembourg and Head of Mission to the European Union.

He was also the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin and had also served as Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka High Commission in London.

As Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai, Amza worked extensively with the Indian Central Government and Tamil Nadu State Government to continue providing Sri Lanka’s education and examination facilities for the children among the 100,000 Sri Lankan refugees who were living in 114 camps across Tamil Nadu.

He Organised Sri Lanka’s General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Examination for the benefit of Sri Lankan children living in Tamil Nadu refugees camps in the year 2006 and 2007.
