Govt. allocates 40% for livelihood development work - Prasanna

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said that the Opposition is spreading various false propaganda against the Government with the aim of discrediting the Government and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna by spreading false rumours.

He pointed out that it is the responsibility of the people’s representatives of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and members of the party to act in manner that will not bring the Government as and the party into disrepute.

The Minister made these comments while addressing a meeting at the Kesbewa electorate during the series of meetings being held under the theme “Through the 2022 Budget.”

The Minister said “identifying proposals for developing the village together with Rural Development Committees is being done these days. The entire village has to be gathered together in one place and development projects required for the division should be identified. Forty percent is allocated for livelihood development work. If this money is used to raise the standards of people such as those engaged in tourism business, that tax money can improve the economy of the country”

He said another 40 percent is allocated for common infrastructure facilities of which 10 percent can be set aside for environmental and sustainable development with another 10 percent for social welfare work. The Minister said Government officials will be summoned from Gramasewa Division level and the entire village gathered at one place and awareness should be raised regarding financial provisions received by the village and proposals for the village. "Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa is ready to provide funds to implement development work in the village.

This work will be taken forward while obtaining the views of the entire village," he added.
