Iranian President Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said on Sunday that there are no obstacles for development of ties with Sri Lanka and emphasized on taking new steps in developing economic, trade relations with the South Asian island nation.
The Iranian President made these remarks during a meeting with the new Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Teheran, Wishwanatha Aponsu on Sunday after receiving the credentials of the new envoy, the President’s Office said in a statement.
Referring to the potential for development of relations between Iran and Sri Lanka, the President said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to activate all capacities for cooperation between the two countries."
"There are no restrictions or obstacles to the development of economic and trade relations and the transfer of experience, especially in the technical and engineering fields between the two countries.”
The President added that with the activation of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the two countries, new steps can be taken in the development of Iran-Sri Lanka relations, especially in the economic field. While presenting the credentials the new ambassador of Sri Lanka to Tehran described the relations between the two countries as long-standing and historical.
"Sri Lanka has always been and will always be a supporter of the Iranian Government and people in international forums,” the Ambassador said.
He also called for the development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the energy, trade and trade sectors, referring to the potential for developing the level of bilateral relations.
