Sri Lanka and Egypt to promote tourism cooperation

A Joint Committee is to be established between Sri Lanka and Egypt to promote cooperation in tourism. Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said that this Committee will be appointed in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on tourism signed between the two countries.

The Minister made this comment during a special discussion held at the Ministry of Tourism with Ambassador of Egypt Hussein El Saharty.

It had also been decided to implement a special tourism promotion programmes in the two countries. According to statistics about 5000 Egyptian tourists visit Sri Lanka annually.

The Ambassador of Egypt said that Egypt is included in the list of countries where on arrival visas are not issued and requested that it be done. Minister Ranatunga said in response that he will get the Immigration and Emigration sectors to focus attention on this issue.

The Egyptian Ambassador commended the COVID vaccination programme and said that he will provide the total support of Egypt to raise the standard of tourism in this country.

Deputy Head of the Egyptian Embassy Karim Abulenein, Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism S. Hettiarachchi and Director General of the Tourism Development Authority Dhammika Wijesinghe participated on this occasion.
