Third Saubhagya Week inaugurated

Development of Samurdhi Home Economy, Microfinance, Self-Employment and Businesses and Under-Utilized State Resources State Minister Shehan Semasinghe inaugurating the third quarterly Saubhagya Week programme in the Rajangane DS Division.

He said so in inaugurating the third quarterly Saubhagya Week programme at 455 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Rajangane DS division.

Semasinghe opened the Weheragala hand paper production plant under the Saubhagya Production Village Programme. In addition he inaugurated a "Karapincha and Naimiris" cultivation village in the Thambuttegama DS division and a "milti Murunga" growing village in Palagala DS division.

"The country is going through a difficult period as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Government is working hard to usher prosperity to the people and the country despite many obstacles. We hope to complete 560 Saubhagya production villages by the end of 2021. In 2021, the people of these villages will add Rs.2,000 million to the national income while it is planned to bring in Rs.18,000 million in 2022. The Government is investing investing large sums of money under this programme for the empowerment of the livelihood programmes and it is evident that the number of low - income group people who are dependent on Samurdhi benefits will decrease as a result of the Saubhagya Production Village Programme," Semasinghe pointed out.

Samurdhi Additional Secretary E. D. Kalunarachchi, Anuradhapura Government Agent Janaka Jayasundara, District Planning Director Sugah Nayanananda and Samurdhi Director W. A. Wasantha were also present on the occasion.
