PCR tests for returning migrant workers: SLBFE to bear the cost

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has decided to bear the cost of PCR tests of Sri Lankan migrant workers arriving in the country at the newly set up PCR testing laboratory in the vicinity of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) premises, Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

The Minister further said that PCR tests of Sri Lankan migrant workers who bring foreign change to the country will be done at this new laboratory and the results issued within three hours.

"We have decided to pay the cost incurred by these migrant workers for PCR tests through the SLBFE in recognition of the great service rendered by them to uplift the country's economy," the Labour Minister added. The Minister said the decision was reached after holding lengthy discussions with the Tourism Ministry, Foreign Employment Prmotion State Ministry, Officials of the Airport and Aviation Services Company.

Normaly, A PCR test will be conducted at a cost of USD 40.

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said since the results of the CPR tests are issued within three hours, migrant workers will be able to return to their homes as soon as possible.

Accordingly, migrant workers who receive a negative PCR test report and are fully vaccinated will be able to return their home.
