Woman escapes assault attempt

A 60-year-old woman of Kendalanda, Ragama has escaped from an attempted assault by a man on September 22 after midnight, by attacking him with a cleaver, Ragama Police Crimes Investigation Division said.

The person had fled and the woman had arrived at the Ragama Police carrying the cleaver.

She was produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Police said.

A finger of the suspect had been cut in the attack by the woman. He had put the severed finger into a bag of ice and arrived at the Ragama Hospital. He is now under treatment at the hospital, Police said.

The suspect is a 36-year- old resident of Ragama.

Investigations are continuing.
