Govt will fulfill international obligations - Dullas

The government will continue to fulfill its international obligations while working in the best interest of its citizens, Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

The Minister was responding to a question raised by a journalist at the Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday.

Minister Alahapperuma stressed that Sri Lanka is one of the oldest members of the United Nations and it respects and accepts the ideals of the UN. The Minister stressed that there was no involvement of the military in civil activities in the country.

“Considering the prevailing pandemic situation in the country, two articles related to Emergency Regulations have been amended by the government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essentials to the public with the involvement of the Armed Forces. The public should understand whether the military intervention in the vaccination process can be positive or negative, or whether their service can be ignored,” the Minister said.

He further said that the Army was actively involved in the rice and paddy issues.

But it is clear to everyone that there is no undue interference by the Armed Forces in the country at the moment.
